Rosh Hodesh at Camp

Support the wellbeing of your campers this summer: add Rosh Hodesh programming for FREE!

Moving Traditions’ Rosh Hodesh program for girls and nonbinary teens creates opportunities for sacred, supportive conversations for teen girls and nonbinary teens to discuss topics that matter to them most, including relationships, stress, body image and much more.

Studies show that the past few years have been particularly difficult for teens, and particularly for girls. In his critical work The Anxious Generation, social psychologist Jonathan Haidt shows how teen girls have been particularly hard hit by the impact of visual based social media; with 57% (close
to 2x as many as boys) reporting feeling persistently sad or hopeless. The Jewish Together BeWell Report emphasizes that American Jewish teens face a dual burden: They contend with the universal challenges of adolescence while also grappling with unique pressures that arise from being Jewish.

If you and your campers enjoy this sample session, please be in touch with your Regional Director to ask about our full Rosh Hodesh curriculum for camp or year‑round.

There are many ways to add Rosh Hodesh to your summer programming with our flexible curriculum. If you’re short on time, host the sample workshop as a one-time special activity with a bunk, an edah, or as part of a chug. If you have more time, request the full Rosh Hodesh curriculum and use it to…

  • Hold an evening bunk or division activity over several nights
  • Design an elective
  • Gather every evening for a conversation or nighttime ritual

In addition, we offer Tzelem programming for LGBTQ+, trans, and nonbinary teens and Shevet programming for teen boys and nonbinary teens.
