Moving Traditions is excited to bring you Shevet for teenage Jewish boys in Philadelphia.
Looking for a way for your teen to…
- Connect with other Jewish teens AND experience Judaism as relevant to their life?
- Have a safe and sacred space to explore fundamental questions of identity and society and to challenge traditional gender codes and expectations?
- Move through their adolescence feeling empowered, growing into happy, healthy adults?
In Moving Traditions Shevet Community Group, participants experience one of our signature programs, Shevet for guys, in single-gender gatherings made up of 8–12 teens in 8th grade. The group meets for two hours each month during the academic year in safe, fun, and supportive spaces to engage in meaningful conversations—where a trained adult mentor helps teens consider Jewish values as they explore the issues they care about most, such as relationships, social pressures, and stress.
Meetings from will take place in Center City, Philadelphia (location sent post registration) from 6-8PM Eastern except for one date noted below.

Group Leader: David Schnabel
I grew up on Long Island, NY, and attended Vanderbilt University, where I studied music and Jewish studies. After graduating, I joined the New York Yankees’ mental skills department and have been with the team for the past 13 seasons. Currently, I serve as the video and research coordinator and mental skills coach. My team and I help prepare the players to mentally handle the pressures and expectations of being a professional athlete and to perform their best regardless of circumstance. I also work as a consultant for the Dallas Cowboys (sorry Eagles fans!). I hold a Master’s in coaching psychology and athletic leadership and am working on another master’s in clinical mental health counseling.
Outside of sports, I’ve been involved in Jewish education since 2011, including five rewarding years teaching a Shevet Achim group. My family and I recently moved to Elkins Park—my wife, Yael, our 9-month-old son, Lior, and our dog, Freckles. I’m excited to get involved with another Moving Traditions group here in Philadelphia and continue my work in the Jewish community.
